KATHLEEN CURTIS FISKEN
Principal- Director of Client Services
 Kathleen Curtis Fisken, Principal, has more than 25 years’ experience in working with a variety of clients with a focus on nonprofit organizations, government contractors and tax issues affecting Americans overseas. Prior to joining the firm, she co-owned Fisken & Company, an accounting, tax and management consulting practice that merged with Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman in 1999.
Kathleen Fisken is highly knowledgeable about the working/living environment of overseas Americans, having lived in India as a Peace Corps Volunteer and having worked in Central and South America. She has specialized in providing the unique tax services affecting those living and working abroad.
During her career, Kathleen Fisken has developed her expertise in the areas of business consulting and outsourced accounting services for both commercial and nonprofit organizations. Her specialized work with nonprofit organizations includes accounting systems design and implementation, organizational structure, financial planning and budgeting, and accounting software support. Her specialized work with commerical organizations includes extensive experience with government contractors in the areas of contract negotiation, FARS compliance, indirect cost pools design, tax and financial planning and budgeting, and representation in DCAA and IG audits. As Director of Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman’s Client Services Department, Kathleen Fisken and her staff provide a full range of client accounting services both off and on site, including monthly write-up and accounting; financial statement preparation; accounting software conversions and upgrades; and staffing of temporary controllerships and CFO positions.
Kathleen Curtis Fisken earned her Bachelors degree at Whittier College and is a licensed Public Accountant in Washington D.C. She is a member of the National Society of Accountants, the Maryland Society of Accountants, the Virginia Society of Accountants, and the National Association of Enrolled Agents. Presently, Ms. Fisken serves as Board Treasurer for the Institute for Training and Development in Amherst, Mass; is Board Secretary of the Montgomery County Masters Swimming Ancient Mariners, and she was recently appointed to serve on the Montgomery County Wide Recreation Advisory Board. She is a founding Board Member of Friends of India and the Shepherd Park After School Program, Washington, DC. She has also served on the boards of The McLean School and St. Andrews Episcopal School. Kathleen was also chosen by Washingtonian Magazine as one of its select list of “Expert Public Accountants” in 1994.
