Robert W. Albrecht, CPA has been a partner with the firm of Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman CPAs since 1996 and has practiced public accounting since 1986 upon graduation from Ohio Wesleyan University. Mr. Albrecht has concentrated his experience on the nonprofit community. His expertise includes auditing and consulting for nonprofit organizations that receive funding from agencies of the US government. In addition, Mr. Albrecht performs a variety of services for other nonprofit organizations including annual audit work, tax and management consulting, internal control evaluations, indirect rate submission and the design and implementation of indirect and fringe benefit rates.
Recognized as the firm’s leader with respect to work with international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), Mr. Albrecht has traveled to more than 100 countries throughout the world on behalf of the firm’s INGO clients. Mr. Albrecht’s overseas work has encompassed both audit work, specifically the review of field office internal controls to ensure compliance with the INGOs’ internal policies and procedures, as well as compliance with specific donor policies and consulting. In addition, Mr. Albrecht currently works with local audit firms in approximately 30 countries around the world. The local audit firms provide a range of services, but most notably work with Mr. Albrecht to ensure that the INGOs are in compliance with their countries.
Mr. Albrecht has presented seminars on various financial issues of concern to the nonprofit community. Recent seminar topics have included managing federal funds administered in foreign countries, developing an indirect rate in accordance with OMB Circular A-122, the impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act on nonprofit organizations, the IRS rules on lobbying expenditures and strategic planning, and the implementation of FASBs 116 and 117 and their effect on nonprofit reporting. Mr. Albrecht has also spoken to clients about their compliance with the requirements imposed by OMB Circulars A-110, A-122 and A-133.
Mr. Albrecht has previously been awarded the SmartCPA award, and is the winner of the 2016 SmartCEO Centers of Influence Award given by SmartCEO magazine. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland Association of CPAs and the Greater Washington Society of CPAs. Mr. Albrecht has also completed the program on Executive Development sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives. He has served as a member of the executive committee of the Board of Directors of InsideNGO and as a board member of several local nonprofit organizations.
