Biography

Mr. Kelin has worked in public accounting since 1974. He co-leads the firm’s group of professionals who provide comprehensive consulting and tax compliance services to more than 500 nonprofit clients. That responsibility includes coordinating all tax planning, return preparation, representation on IRS audits and preparation of ruling requests from the IRS. Additionally, he consults with many large national and international nonprofit organizations with complex tax planning needs, and advises clients on the risks and benefits of exempt status.

As principal in the tax department, Mr. Kelin educates clients on special regulations affecting nonprofits, such as lobbying and political activity restrictions, intermediate sanctions, unrelated business activities, and cost allocation and charitable giving rules. He regularly speaks to industry groups on new developments. He monitors the changing environments concerning reporting and operational requirements to assist his clients in managing risks and taking maximum advantage of their tax-exempt status.
