Biography

Alex is a seasoned operations and risk leader with over a decade of experience
driving strategic change across the international development, nonprofit, and
consulting sectors. As an expert advisor for GRF, he helps clients establish and
strengthen Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks, build internal capabilities, and foster cultures where risk is viewed not as a constraint but as a catalyst for success.

As former Chief Operating Officer of a U.S.-based international NGO, he
understands the real-world challenges of implementation and delivers right sized, flexible solutions that meet organizations where they are, while preparing them for scale and resilience. Fluent in Spanish and experienced across the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Oceania, Alex brings a global, practitioner’s perspective to his work.

He has built ERM systems from the ground up and led their evolution through
organizational change, regulatory shifts, and rapid growth. His approach
emphasizes behavior change and positive risk culture, drawing on early experience in health and safety and further shaped through years in operational leadership. He supports clients in creating psychologically safe environments that embed ownership of risk at every level.

Alex sits on the Risk Committee to the Board of Bridges to Prosperity and has presented on ERM best practice at NC State’s Annual ERM Roundtable. One of his favorite framings of ERM comes from former Citigroup CEO John Reid, who posed the question: “How fast would you drive a car you knew didn’t have brakes?” Alex applies this principle to his approach to risk management, supporting clients in building the brakes they need to accelerate impact while maintaining control and integrity.
