Sage Intacct AI Gateway: A New Way to Work with Your Financial Data

November 4, 2026

Finance teams have spent years improving how financial data gets into their accounting systems. Sage Intacct’s AI Gateway raises a new question: What if getting useful information out of that data became more conversational? By connecting Sage Intacct financial data with external AI applications, it allows authorized users to begin with a natural-language business question rather than a predefined report.

What Is the Sage Intacct AI Gateway?

The Sage Intacct AI Gateway gives external AI applications access to Sage Intacct data through REST APIs or the Sage Intacct Model Context Protocol, or MCP, Server. Designed for AI interactions, the MCP Server allows large language models to explore Intacct data structures and perform read-only queries.

Sage currently identifies core financial areas accessible through MCP including:

Accounts Payable Accounts Receivable Cash Management General Ledger Purchasing Order Entry

Is This the Same as Sage Copilot?

It is important to distinguish the AI Gateway from Sage Copilot. That distinction creates opportunities for organizations that want to explore AI around their financial data while choosing the AI environment and use cases that fit their needs.

Sage Copilot

The AI experience embedded directly within Sage Intacct itself.

AI Gateway

A way to connect Intacct data to third-party AI tools and workflows of your choosing.

What Can You Do with Sage Intacct and MCP?

Our accounting technology team recently put the capability through its paces during an internal proof of concept.

Using a connected Sage Intacct demonstration environment, accounting tech consultant Jesse Ramsell showed how a user could ask questions about the data in plain language. Examples included identifying customers with the highest outstanding accounts receivable balances, finding top expense accounts by spend, and comparing expenses across periods.
The team also asked the AI tool to chart monthly expenses by department, create other financial visualizations, and combine the analyses into a dashboard.

"The real promise is making powerful analysis more approachable for people who understand the financial question but may not know how to build the underlying query." Leo Gutierrez, GRF

Ask Sage Intacct a Financial Question in Plain Language

From Several Finance Questions to One Dashboard

Questions a Nonprofit Finance Team Could Explore

Depending on the organization's configuration, dimensions, permissions, and available data, a nonprofit finance team might ask:

How are actual expenses tracking against budget by program or department?
Which grants or funding sources have unusual spending patterns?
How have event, dues, contribution, or program-service revenues changed?
Which receivable balances require follow-up?

The AI layer can query available Intacct data and present the results. The output will depend on the AI application, the data, and the user's instructions.

FAQs

No. Sage’s current documentation states that its MCP Server provides read-only access to Sage Intacct data and object metadata. It can query information but cannot write changes back into Intacct. In GRF’s demonstration, AI helped prepare an import file for a person to review and import, preserving human oversight of the change.

Not necessarily. During GRF’s proof of concept, the connection authenticated through the user’s Sage Intacct account, and the team observed that existing access restrictions were honored through that account. Organizations should still validate roles, permissions, connected applications, and internal AI policies before enabling broader use.

Treat the output as analysis to review, not an unquestioned conclusion. The demonstration showed that the quality of the result can depend on prompt clarity, selected entities, time periods, currencies, and the structure of the underlying data. Users should inspect assumptions and validate material findings before relying on them.

Users can ask questions in natural language rather than write database queries. Configuration, governance, and advanced workflows may still require technical support.

Why this matters for finance teams

Natural-language access gives finance professionals another way to explore data: start with the business question, then use AI to investigate the underlying information. The best use cases will improve an existing workflow or help answer an unexpected question during a management conversation, not add AI simply because it is available.

GRF recommends evaluating the capability through the same control lens applied to any financial technology: who can connect, what information they can access, what may pass into the selected AI application, how outputs will be reviewed, and which uses are prohibited. The connection may be read-only, but its analysis can still influence financial decisions.

Moving from AI experimentation to practical use

For current Sage Intacct users and organizations evaluating the platform, the practical question is where AI could make financial data more useful. The answer depends on data structure, permissions, processes, and the questions the finance team needs to answer.

Before enabling the connection broadly, consider:

  • Use case: What recurring question or process are you trying to improve?
  • Data readiness: Are dimensions, entities, accounts, and customer or vendor records structured consistently?
  • Access: Are user roles and permissions appropriate for an AI-connected workflow?
  • Validation: Who reviews results before they are shared or used?
  • Adoption: Which users should participate in a controlled pilot?
